How To: Easy Twist Updo

10:29 PM

Here is a step by step guide to do a very easy twist updo.

Things you will need
1. Bobby pins, preferably a color that matches your hair
2. A comb
3. Hair spray

Step 1: Wash and blow dry hair normally. If you have a root lifter, use that before blow drying. This works best with 1-2 day dirty hair since the bobby pins won't slip out like they do with clean hair. If you have just freshly washed hair, use lots of hair spray to give your hair some texture.

Step 2: Take a small section of hair in the front of your head and spray with hair spray. I usually use Redken 18 or 20  or Kenra 13 or 25 depending on what type of hold you need for your hair.

Step 3: Take a comb and tease you hair by loosely holding your hair in one hand and by moving the comb up and down as you slowly move up towards the end of your hair.

Step 4: Flip that part of your hair over so it covers your face. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with another small section of hair.

Step 5: Flip both teased sections of hair over and take a comb and very lightly comb to make the top smooth. Don't go overboard since this will completely get rid of your poof.

Step 6: Grasp your hair in a low ponytail and begin to twist up towards the top of your head. Once you are almost at the end of your hair, fold over and grasp firmly with your hand. You will then have the ends of you hair sticking out.

Step 7: Gently tuck the ends of you hair under the twist.

Step 8: Take a bobby pin and use to pin the top left of the twist. Switch your hands that is holding your hair. Take a bobby pin and pin the top right. If needed, pin the lower left or right of the twist, depending on which way you originally twisted your hair.

I only used three bobby pins in my hair, but my hair is pretty thin. Depending on the thickness of your hair, you might need more bobby pins. Once you get the twist to stay you can stick bobby pins in where you feel you need them.

Step 9: Spray with hair spray.

  3. Hey there! I popped over from Anthroholic's Reader Outfits :)

I've never been able to tease my hair well, but now I'm inspired to try again (esp since my hair is always so darn flat)! Thanks for the how-to!
